St. George Hosts Disability Awareness Week Kickoff

On Sunday, May 29, St. George hosted the kickoff event for Disability Awareness Week.

Disability Awareness Week continues the tradition of National Access Awareness Week first established in 1988 to promote better community access for people with disabilities. In 1998, a decision was made in New Brunswick to continue celebrating an annual awareness week but with a new name to ensure that all issues related to persons with a disability could be promoted.

The kickoff event took place outside of Repeat Boutique on Brunswick Street, which is operated by Community Living Center.

The video below shares a portion of the event, recorded by CHCO-TV, including remarks by Laura-Lee Carrier (Community Living Center), Mayor John Detorakis (St. George), and MLA Andrea Anderson-Mason (Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West).
