Council invites residents of Eastern Charlotte to participate in public consultation related to a request to the Province for incorporation to a Town.
In the first regular meeting of Council for Eastern Charlotte on January 18, 2023, a resolution was approved requesting Eastern Charlotte be incorporated as a Town, rather than stay as a Rural Community. Since then, Council has taken steps to fulfill the requirements for a Town under provincial legislation.
A formal proposal was recently sent to the Local Governance Commission (LGC) to request incorporation as a Town (click here to read the full proposal). The proposal explains the rational behind the request, as well as impacts from incorporation. The boundaries, population, tax base, and services will not be changed as a result of incorporation.
The LGC has moved the proposal forward, and a public consultation is the next step in the process. A full report will then be sent by staff to the LGC. Here is how you can participate in the public consultation phase:
- Attend a town hall meeting scheduled for residents. (Please note: In the second meeting, speakers from the first meeting will be required to wait until those who did not attend the first meeting are finished speaking.)
