Level One: Enhanced Monitoring (Drought Conditions & Wildfire Risk)

As of 12:30pm, the Municipality of Eastern Charlotte has activated Level One: Enhanced Monitoring regarding “Drought Conditions” and “Wildfire Risk” for all Eastern Charlotte.

IMPACTED COMMUNITIES: ALL (entire Eastern Charlotte)

STATUS COMMENTS: Precipitation in the Eastern Charlotte region over the last thirty (30) days has been severely limited while temperatures during the same period have remained high. The seven (7) day forecast shows temperatures in the mid-high 20s with humidity warnings on Monday and Tuesday. There is a possibility of a small amount of rain (9mm) on Thursday. On August 10, the Province entered monitoring status and closed all public access to Crown Lands.

The municipality will be advising residents and businesses to conserve water and avoid unnecessary waste, effective 18:00 hours today. While this advisory is particularly focused on users of the municipal water systems, residents on private wells will be encouraged to take actions in limiting unnecessary use of water. While wells of the municipal water systems are functioning normally at the time being, a conservation is a proactive measure to ensure the continuation of water services.

There is a “no burn” (red) across the entire province. Eastern Charlotte Fire Rescue is conducting patrols for campfires and burning especially at campgrounds and park space. In Eastern Charlotte, this ban does not apply to natural gas and propane fire pits (as of 10:00 hours on Monday, August 18).

All municipal owned and managed natural trails have been closed since Sunday, August 10. Effective, 10:00 hrs. on August 11, NB Natural Trust has closed all their Nature Preserve and Trails access (particularly impacting trails in Blacks Harbour). The Splash Pad is a water recycling system and Canal Beach remains open.
